Winter is coming! Do you know what that means? No, no… not snow… It’s engagement season! Come January my phone starts ringing off the hook with calls from newly engaged couples who had a truly special holiday season. Couples will be kicking it in high gear; securing their venue, their PHOTOGRAPHER:), their florist and their wedding music! And do I have a treat for you! Today I’m so excited to share with you a Minneapolis wedding band that will leave everyone talking after attending your awesome wedding. Mish Mash.

Mish Mash is the coolest wedding band you have ever seen. Their play list is loaded with the best cover songs one could ever wish for, they are off the charts cool and these cats got talent! This summer I had the pleasure of photographing them at their show at the Moondance Jam in Walker, Minnesota. Their energy was addicting. (You may remember the images I shot at Moondance of Kiss and Dierks Bentley!)

If you are looking at reception music, consider going with a live band… Mish Mash. Live wedding music is a great alternative to a DJ. Not only does Mish Mash rock but they are professional. They will return your e-mails and show up on time.

As Minnesota Monthly puts it, “Mish Mash band is all about energy, interaction, and spirited fun. They describe themselves as a dedicated group of expert performers who “love playing rock-and-roll with the eager enthusiasm of giddy teenagers.”.

Minneapolis Family Photographer Celebrates with Mickey!

It’s November and I have no idea how that happened. Summer and fall 2011 have been awesome and busy and I’m am looking forward for a little time in the winter where I can stop, breath and catch up on some blogging. I have so many adorable families and couples to share with you!

I wanted to take a moment to thank each and everyone of my amazing clients! My wedding couples, families, actors/models and parents who have all trusted me this year to capture their special moments. I am so honored to have been able to work with you. I’m so honored to keep working with you year after year. The notes and letters I have received this summer continue to make my heart smile and I’m beyond excited and grateful to be able to bring smiles to families faces. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

On a personal note, my little guy is growing up fast. It’s almost been one year since his surgery and he is doing perfectly! He started preschool and is totally handsome and smart. Elliott loves Mickey Mouse and this is the second year he has requested to be Mickey for Halloween. At the beginning of the month we took Elliott out to Disneyland and he was over-the-moon to meet Mickey Mouse himself!

Expect more posts in the near future! I have a lot of work I can’t wait to share with you. Until then, here are a couple snapshots of my little guy at our neighborhood toddler friendly Halloween party!

Minneapolis Family Photographer 2011 Fall Mini Sessions!

It’s that time of year when the kids go back to school, the leaves start to change colors and fall pictures need to get on the schedule! I know, I know… I don’t want to rush things either. Time is going way too fast. And to tell you the truth, I was going to skip mini sessions this year but I have received so many emails and phone calls. (Thank you for your continued support and business!) So here we go. The announcement of the 2011 Fall Mini Sessions! This year the sessions will be held at a private residence in Victoria, Minnesota which is about 10 minutes west of Chanhassen. The colors should be perfect! The backdrop of the area includes a lake, wooded area and lots of grass. It is going to be perfect and I’m so excited! I also wanted to extend an offer! If you sign up and you refer a friend who signs up, you will receive $25 off your mini session!

The Details:

A non-refundable deposit of $50 is due at the time of booking via credit card to reserve your spot. The deposit will be applied to your session price.

Sessions are open to family portraits (up to 5 people), engagement photos, senior pictures or just because!

Once you have made your deposit, you will receive the address and map of the location.

You will receive a link to your online gallery by October 17th.

You will be able to choose 12 images from the gallery that are included in the mini session package. I ask that you choose by 10/21/2011.

If you wish to purchase more high res images from your gallery, you may do so for a discounted rate of $10 per image.

You also have the option to purchase a disk with all of the images in the gallery for $150. (A $50 discount!)

The complementary prints will be ordered by me on 10/24 so I will need to know which prints you would like before then via email.

Any additional prints may be ordered by you at any time from the gallery. You will receive a discount code for 15% off that expires on 11/15/2011.

Minneapolis Family Photographer on What to Wear!

The number one question I get asked is, “What should we wear to our session?”. The choices are unlimited! I love bright colors, I love jeans, I love dresses… anything goes! There is one big key to making everyone look great together. The word of the day is coordinate. But DO NOT match! In essence, those two words can mean the same thing and I know it can be confusing. So let me explain. Don’t MATCH everyone in the same color. Instead, pick a 2-3 color scheme to work within and have everyone complement each other. What you want to avoid is having everyone wearing the same color on top and the same color on bottom. No need to be matchy-matchy…. please don’t be matchy-matchy.

Another basic tip to remember is to avoid having everyone wear all white shirts and matching khaki or jeans on the bottoms. One of the main problems with everyone wearing all white is then the white shirts become the focus point of the picture not to mention it is a pretty outdated look. Your eyes will always be automatically drawn to the white shirts. We don’t want to distract from your beautiful family! If you have one person in white, that is just fine! Having the rest of the family sitting around and cuddling in will accent the one white shirt or dress just fine!

I have put together some examples of coordinating outfits below. If you have any questions, just ask! In fact, feel free to email me pictures of the outfits you are thinking about and I would love to have a wardrobe consolation with you over phone or email! Have fun with it! Layer shirts and sweaters, roll up the jeans, wear funky socks, accessorize and don’t be afraid of color! Also know that getting dressed for your session doesn’t have to be expensive! You can utilize key pieces from your wardrobe and accent with the latest in-season colors. All of the clothes in the example below are from Old Navy!

I also want to invite you to bring props with you to your photography session. Does dad play acoustic guitar for the family at night? Has mom quilted an important family blanket? Do the kids have important loveys that you would like to remember years after the threads have worn away? I say bring them! It can be a lot of fun to tailor your session around objects that are important to your family. This will help make the images more personal and fun!

Minneapolis Wedding Photographer Captures Love at the Peace Gardens

The Farmers Almanac states it hasn’t rained on June 18th in over 10 years. Surely it won’t rain this year. Megan and Dave planned for a beautiful outdoor wedding at the Lyndale Peace Garden in Minneapolis. But wouldn’t you know it, this year it did rain on June 18th. We all kicked it into high gear and made a few changes in the set up and soon Megan was being walked down into a beautiful little shelter known as the Roberts Bird Sanctuary. While it may have been raining during the ceremony, it was so romantic and intimate. Guests were holding umbrellas, the wedding party and family were within arms reach and Megan was absolutely stunning as she was escorted by her father to her future husband. I can’t image how their wedding day could have been any more perfect. Sure, it did rain but it was so beautiful. It is a Hindu belief that rain on a wedding day is good luck. I happen to agree. Congratulations Megan and David. Thank you for allowing me to take part in your amazing day!
